vegan multivitamins

Which ones do you take? Chewable or pills?

Suggestions and where to buy/order would be cool if you have that info.

Added note: must be vegan!

Ha!

I don't take a vitamin! I DON'T NEED IT
I'm actually an alien life form that can survive on cereal and soy milk alone!

Uhh, my mom takes One a Day, but I dunno if its vegan...
BTW, what are some vegan multi vitamins, you know, just in case...

It's very difficult to find vegan multis. I think www.pangeaveg.com has some, but I'm not sure if that's the right website.

I can pretty guarantee just about everything you find at a vitamin store isn't 100% vegan. Even the ones that are labelled vegetarian probably get their D or other vitamins from an animal product of some sort or another.

Capsules are better than tablets, they're absorbed better because they're not as compacted. Same goes for chewables.

But you generally have to take more pills in capsule/chewable form to get the same amount of vitamins.

Ever the problem for those of us who wish the additional protection of various nutrients yet wish to avoid animal products. Whole food concentrates such as spirulina in powder and veggie capsules are often a good choice as they provide a wide range of nutrients in a form that the body can utilize very efficiently. Product lines like Solgar are making an effort to come up with innovative vegan friendly vitamin supplements. Solgar has recently developed vegan soft-gel encapsulation which they are now using for vitamin E. Almost all soft-gel products use animal gelatin. Dr. Fuhrman's Gentle Care Formula is a true vegan multivitamin/mineral supplement at a fairly good price. http://drfuhrman.com/Merchant2/merch...uct_Co de=GCF
VegLife vitamins are vegan approved.Check their site at: http://www.nutraceutical.com/about/veglife.cfm
Follow their link to VegLife catalog where you can check ingredients.
One-a-day multivitamin supplements are not a very good value. The water soluble vitamins including C and some of the B's are only going to be available within the body for a few hours before they are lost (the oil soluble vitamins can be stored in various tissues like the liver for use when needed). By using a supplement 2 or 3 times a day we can assure an ongoing availability of all the nutrients provided by the supplement

Peace be with you, and may you never be lacking....

Solgar isn't the only one using Vcaps - there's actually a Vcaps company which has patented the non-gelatin capsule, and several of the major brands are switching to this now. Look for the "Vcaps(tm)" on the bottle or "Suitable for vegetarians" on the bottle. Anything lacking these can be assumed to have gelatin in it.

I use Vertese(tm) Multi Vitamins with Evening Primrose Oil. They are suitable for Vegans, and they are the new Gelcap type.

Talking ordering

I love Pangea ! I'd like to know how I can get a date with the girl on the front page! You can order multivitamins from there and Vegan Essentials has a wide array of vitamins.

It took me a while to find the cheapest vegan multi but I think it is Country Life. I take the iron-free veggie cap one every other day ($13 for 120) and a 1000 IU of vegan vitamin D every day ($3/100).

I just found the following at SafeWay:

It's perfect!

I think.

I think it's ok. Here is a more complete list.
http://www.myhealthcare21.com/NW924/Alive.html

It isn't possible to be too careful with multis. A lot of the ones labeled as vegetarian actually contain the D3 which is from fish liver or sheep sebum.

I would certainly take a vitamin with a manly name like Grog. "Eh, wench--bring me some Grog!"

I changed my mind recently! Having no money for food makes taking a vitamin more essential. I take a multi vitamin every few days and a B-12 once a week. College is not good for you!

Grog - makes you strong and puts hair on your chest! Careful though, like many strong vitamins, Grog makes your pee neon yellow/orange!
