INGREDIENTS: 2-1/4 cups all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon salt 1 cup Earth Balance*, softened (although Earth Balance is the best, you may use any other non-dairy butter/margarine) 3/4 cup granulated [white] sugar 3/4 cup packed brown sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Egg Replacer for 2 eggs** 2 cups (12-ounce package) semi-sweet chocolate chips 1 cup chopped nuts (optional) *Earth Balance can be found at Whole Foods, Lakeshore Natural Foods, and other natural health food stores. **ENER-G Egg Replacer is a brand-name powder mixture of vegetable starches that simulates eggs in baking. It can be used in recipes calling for unbeaten eggs, egg whites beaten stiff, and egg yolks. It can be found at Whole Foods as well as natural health food stores. INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Combine flour, baking soda and salt in small bowl. 2. Beat butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar and vanilla in large mixer bowl. 3. Add egg replacer one at a time, beating well after each addition; gradually beat in flour mixture. 4. Stir in chips and nuts. 5. Drop by rounded tablespoon onto ungreased baking sheets. 6. Bake in preheated 375-degree oven for 8 to 10 minutes or until golden brown. 7. Let stand for 2 minutes; remove to wire racks to cool completely.

i got this recipe from a link at vegblog the other day, and finally felt courageous enough to make them this afternoon. i have only made cookies once in my life, when i was about 15 years old, and it didn't really work out so well. i've stuck to bars/brownies/etc. since then.
![]() anyway, i'm proud to report that these turned out! hooray! my husband ate three as soon as he walked in the door. i ate one when it was still melty and warm and it was pretty darn good. we'll see how they are when i get home (now that they've cooled/hardened a bit or whatever)... but i guess i'd call this a success. the batter was AWESOME. i could have just stuck it in the fridge and called it a day. what's for dessert? batter! |

oh! crazy! well i found Arti's thread by searching for "toll house" and just seeing what came up... so i didn't realize that it was already posted here somewhere else too. toll house cookie bakers abound!
![]() grog, like you, i doubled the vanilla and ignored the nuts. also like you, i had to bake them longer (i went for 12 minutes). i ate some for dessert tonight and i'm not entirely sold. they're good, but they're almost too rich or something. i can't put my finger on it yet. maybe it's the brown sugar? anyway, i like them but i'm sooooo used to my grandma's chocolate chip cookies (which i don't eat anymore, but can totally remember how they taste!) that it's hard to be objective. |

i'm going to make these again today. i'm going to a friend's house for dinner, and there will be two mommies and three kiddos (2, 2, and 4 years old) in attendance. i'm bringing dessert so that i can eat it.
![]() anyway, i have talked to my gram about her recipe and it's eerily similar to this one; but there were a couple of minor differences and i've also picked up a trick or two in the meantime. so, i'm going to work on the "revised" version today and see how it goes. i shall keep you posted! |

I've been eating cookie dough for dessert all week. Yum! I can't believe I used to eat regular cookie dough with eggs and all that. How do people not get sick from it?

((i made these a little smaller this time around, as per my grandma. i ended up with 5 dozen cookies.)) 6. bake in preheated 375-degree oven for 8-9 minutes. if you take them out before the tops look fully set they will be chewy. yum. 7. let stand for 3-5 minutes (2 min); remove to wire racks to cool completely. |

Other recipes that are good that don't require egg replacer is the one off the back of the silk soymilk carton and the one from "how it all vegan" on page 137, classic choc chip cookies. it has
3/4 C dry sweetner (i used 3/4 c brown sugar) 1/2 C margarine 1/2 C veg oil 3 T water 2 t vanilla extract 2 1/4 C flour 1 t baking soda 1/2 t salt a bag of chocolate chips For the flour i used a mixture of almost half wheat flour and the rest white flour. Gives them a little oomf. SOOO good! The best cookies i've ever eaten in my life, and i've been bakign cookies since the 4th grade... One of those things where you have to have one every time you walk in the kitchen. :s on second thoughts, don't make them, they're really dangerous |

Thank you Bluedawgggggggggg ! The girls and I made your cookies this afternoon. YUuuuuuuuuuummmmmmmmy nummmmmmmmmlicioussssssss !
We followed the recipe pretty close except for the following 1 1/2 tsp of vanilla (in honor of grog) 1 cup organic unproccessed whitish sugar cuz thats all we had 1/2 cup organic brown sugar My oven wasnt getting them all the way cooked at 8/9 min. I think it was closer to 10/12 min and still soft and gooey goodness ! My husband is totally sold on our first homemade vegan chocolate chip cookies Thannnnnnnnnk youuuuuuuuuu

Figured I'd barge in and post the chocolate chip cookie recipes I love.
When I want a simple recipe that consists of just chocolate chips and cookie dough, I make: Quote:

Here are substitutions I've used successfully: Instead of margarine - Vegetable shortening; coconut oil Any type of sugar works (I've used white, brown, once I even ran out and had to use powdered sugar. oops! it still turned out, haha) Flours - Rice flour, brown rice flour, white flour, whole wheat flour, oat flour, almond flour (I didn't use almond flour for the whole amount though, it was about 1/4 cup and the rest was oat flour) The cookies can be modified very well to be super awesome gluten-free cookies! Just use a gluten-free flour like the brown rice flour, and replace the rolled oats with another rolled grain (I'm not sure which have no gluten, but www.foodsubs.com has a list of grains that are available in rolled form). I finally had the Perfect occation to make Kat's Ecopalooza cookies !!!
My brother in law got a batch for his birthday since he didnt want a presant. Janey and I made them with cranberries cherries walnuts - all soaked in the last of my xmas amaretto cashews chocolate chips used 1 1/2 vanilla and 1 tsp almond extract the family LOVED them, dont know about brother in law yet Thanks Kat !!!!!!!!!!!!!
