L-Lysine for inappropriate feline urination?
Has anybody heard of using L-lysine for inappropriate feline urination? My housemate is at her wits end, trying to care for two human kids & two felines, one of whom sometimes has peeing sprees. She started recording them on her calendar to prove to her hubby that things were getting out of hand, and it seemed to me that he (the kitty, not the hubby) would pee on a blanket or carpet 4 or 5 days out of the week.
They're giving him lysine, and it may be working, but I've never ever heard of this.

I'd never heard of it. I've always been under the impression that inappropriate urination is usually a symptom of either some sort of illness or the cat having taken a dislike to the litterbox because it's not being cleaned often enough or they don't like the brand of cat litter or something like that.
Maybe L-Lysine is used as a treatment for some sort of UTI? If that's the case, it seems like a trip to the vet might be in order if it hasn't already been done, just in case L-Lysine is the wrong thing for whatever particular situation is causing the peeing. |

My kitties have taken it for herpes (eye, respiratory), but I've never heard about it for littlerbox issues.
I'm trying feliway right now for litterbox issues and it might be too soon to tell, but it seems to be making a difference for that. |

Feliway? I thought that was an anti-anxiety measure. This cat seems fine otherwise, and the pee sprees have occurred sporadically since he was much younger, including before the kids. He actually defecated on their bed a number of times when they went away for a week, but I was cleaning his box every day.
They're going away again, so I'm going to spend lots of time in their room to give him (and his kitty friend) lots of personal attention. As well as covering the family's beds with plastic! He's the loveliest, purriest cat, but with such peeing, I'm much relieved to live with Who knows, maybe he does just need a lot more scritching than he was getting, what w/the kids taking all the attention away from the kitties.

Feliway has been a miracle for us. One of the cats used to pee on sometimg at least a couple of times a week. No more! He still does it rarely. Our apartment is small so we unplug it for a few days I'd only leave it plugged in had the day.

hmmm, our humane society has recently started sprinkling it on all the kitties' food, but i can't remember why now. someone told me when they first started doing it, but i definitely don't remember them saying it had anything to do with peeing. i'll try to remember to ask when i'm there next week.
