Delirium's Vegan Story
It all started with a simple conversation with my fiance.
Without knowing it, both of us were considering becoming vegetarian. I had been one briefly when I was a teenager (translation: when I thought fast food french fries and doritos were a healthy diet...I got sick...wonder why? and had to return to being an omnivore.) He had never been, but had been thinking about it. Well, after a discussion where we had both brought up the subject at about the same time, we both made the decision to go vegetarian. That lasted about 2 hours for me...I started surfing the net looking for information and started coming across vegan sites. After viewing the conditions that battery chickens were forced to live in, watching newborn calfs being stuck in wooden boxes and their mothers raped at continue producing milk, after watching a million attrocities that produced more than a few tears...I decided that being a vegetarian...would not do enough to end the suffering that animals are subjected to everday. (I hope no one takes offense to that, I encourage everyone who takes even the smallest step towards ending animal cruelty, this was a personal desicion) The next few weeks were filled with learning what was in what, which I must say was disgusting because I was realizing exactly what I had been putting in and on my body for my whole life. Also, I am re-learning how to cook..I make the BEST vegan banana bread. ![]() My biggest obstacle has been the reaction from friends and co-workers. Some think I'm some crazy extremist, some think I'm just blowing thigs out of proportion. But, after the sensationalism of my switch to veganism subsided, more and more of my co-workers are becoming truly interested in what I am doing and why I am doing it. It may help that a few people asked me to bring in my animal ingredients list and found out that they put urine in most beauty products. Also, I bring in vegan treats like banana bread, chocolate chip cookies and things that they say I just can't have anymore because I'm vegan. I think the biggest misconception I've come across is that cruelty free items just can't be as good as the "normal" stuff. I'm trying to break that, at least in people I know by showing them just how good vegan items can be.So, anyway..I'm droning on and on. ![]() Thanks for having a place that I can come to find others like me. Kind of a rare thing in Indiana.

Welcome Delerium! Have you and your fiance gotten married yet? When I got married, my wife was already vegetarian so that made the leap much easier.
Now, seeing as how lucky I am to having a vegan partner, I do not know how other couples do it when one person is vegan/vegetarian and the other isn't .. |

No, we haven't been married yet.
Here's the big long story edited down to a long short sotry. ![]() We met on the internet two and a half years ago at a bulletian board for fans of the movie "The Crow." We quickly became very good friends and both harboured some deep feelings that we didn't want to follow through on because of distance (I'm in Indiana and he is in Australia) age (I'm 26, he's going to be 21 in a few days) and the fact that we just didn't think the other would be interested in that way. So, we stayed close friends for two years, girlfriends and boyfriends came and went well, I had broken up with a boyfriend and moved back home and really started to think about what I wanted in life and I decided that I was going to try to be with the person I had been in love with for two years...my now fiance Simon. Without realizing it, I was always comparing people I was with to him, thnking about him more than a little bit and knew that I was in love with him. Well, long story short, the feeling was mutual. Needless to say, I was never happier in my life and continue to be on cloud nine. We met in person for the first time in December. He came to America and spent a month here with me. He's moving back in December (he has to finish university and we have to save the money for an immigration lawyer and paperwork) and then we will FINALLY get married. And yes, it will be a vegan wedding, much to my mother's dismay. lol |

Most likely not, Simon wants to move here so I can be around my family and friends. There's also a better job market here.
But, I don't want to rule anything out because so far, being vegan in Melbourne, an area he is very close to, is really great. So, 90% no...
