...is there such a thing? I'm making a quick trip to Chicago and want to taste the deep dish deliciousness, if it's possible to get one vegan.

For sure I'm going to go to the Bleeding Heart Bakery, the Chicago Diner and Quimby's.

Carla

MOD NOTE: i combined multiple threads on the subject of visiting Lollapalooza

Pathetically we have no good vegan pizza (imho). The closest you can get is an accidentally vegan stuffed pizza with NO cheese from Chicago's Pizza (http://www.chicagos-pizza.com/site/epage/11030_158.htm#stuffedpizza). It's not "deep dish" chicago style but it's close. When we're in a pizza way we often order one of them babies and re-bake some vegan gourmet cheese on it. Without though is just as fine too.
Have fun on your visit, when are ya coming in btw?

I'm actually going for Lollapalooza. Arriving Friday and leaving Monday, most of my time there will be either at the festival or asleep :umm:, but I want to soak in some Chicago!

Cool thanks for the recommendations. I think I'm staying near Huron and Michigan Streets. Apparently there's a Whole Foods closeby so I can get some chocolate soy milk. Are you going to Lolla or is that for out-of-towners like me? My travel buddy is a music fan but not vegan.

I like to make pizza, but have yet to get my hands on a deep dish dish. Once I do, look out chicago, I'll be making me some bad-ass pizzas.

I keep telling Climbo, he and I should open a Vegan Pizza Shop.

If Schmeel and I opened a pizza shop, it would be like that one Garfield where Jon and Garfield were making lasagna and Jon handed Garfield the ingredients to put into the pan but Garfield would eat like half the stuff that was handed to him but Jon didn't realize because his back was turned or something and then when they cooked it the amount of lasagna that came out was so small and Jon was all this isn't a good recipe and Garfield agreed with him but Garfield wasn't even being wiley or anything because he seemed to have forgotten that he had actually eaten most of the ingredients so it was kind of sad and I shed a tear.

i once made a deep dish chicago style vegan pizza.

it was amazing! (thats me thinking about it)

all i did was line a pie pan with crust & do a little pre bake

while i blended some firm tofu & some silken tofu added carmalized onions, and sauteed spinach & mushrooms

i put this on top of the (little bit) pre baked bottom crust...

then baked that a bit....

then added another layer of crust & my toppings (tomato sauce, mushrooms, asparagus & chreese)

and baked again.

result...

chicagovegan style deep dish pizza with chreese!

ta-da!:D

I'm going to Lolla, too! But no advice on where you can volunteer your time or have breakfast!

The Bleeding Heart Bakery (http://www.thebleedingheartbakery.com/)sounds awesome, you should check it out, I know I will. In the "Chicago style pizza" thread, Dandelion suggested
SoulVeg and Karyn's Cooked.

This year i believe we're tabling a neighborhood fest (Northalsted Market Days) in lieu of Lolla, sorry.
for vegan breakfast i highly recommend Pick Me Up (http://centerstage.net/restaurants/pick-me-up.html) for their pancakes, french toast and tofu scram.

Pick Me Up is a veg-friendly resto and it's open 24 hours on weekends!!?? Wow!!

Grog: Lolla revived a couple years ago but isn't a traveling show anymore, just in Chicago. The lineup is fantastic this year!

There will be vegan ice cream sandwiches at the northside food court! And the southside has a vendor promising "world vegetarian cuisine" so hopefully we vegans will find enough to eat in the park.

Aw - I hope you have lots of fun and see lots of bands!

*gasp* I've never looked at the band line-up until just now. Cheez-suss! Now I'm way envious.
