Link asked a question about what foods to eat to gain weight. Since the thread it was posted on was really long, I decided to start a new one just for this.
The best way to gain weight is to load up on carbs. That's not always best though, because it packs on the fat, not the muscle. If you want to gain muscle mass, it's a bit of a slower process. First, and very important, be sure you are getting enough carbs (from whole grain sources as much as possible), but don't over load on them. The rest of your calories should come mostly from protein rich veggies and beans and so on. Eat a varied and balanced diet as much as you are able, and try to consume more calories than usual. For example, I'm 5'3'' 130 lbs and I'm pretty active, so I have to eat 3000 calories a day to gain muscle mass. It's been pretty slow going though, because I'm worried about too much fat, and I've gained only 15 lbs since September. And don't forget to work out! Free weights are great for packing on the muscle. The heavier the weight, the larger you'll get, even if you can only manage a few reps.
If you aren't worried about getting a bit of a belly though, just eat, eat, friggin' eat! But be sure that you are getting all your vitamins, it'll help you gain weight faster, and keep you healthier overall.
Hope this helps Link!
