Hi Everyone!
One tired and worried new mom here asking you for your advice.

I am exclusively breastfeeding and I notice that Mia constantly is gassy and spitting up. I spoke with her peditrician and was told that spitting up is normal and that her gas would eventually go away.

When Mia is gassy she gets really cranky and basically throws herself up on my shoulder crying in pain. I feel really bad for her and want to try gas drops, but her peditrician said that they are not proven to work. Any advice?
Has anything worked for you guys?

I thank you in advance.

First let me say that from the myriad of babies I see weekly at my "baby and me" yoga class and from my infant massage classes, every baby is different. That said, Claudia is kind of a gassy baby and screams when she had gas - what we found helps is keeping her upright when she's gassy - putting her on her back or holding her in a cradle hold makes it much more painful. So we sit her upright (a 90 degree angle - so you can't just put her in a bouncy seat but need to actively hold her) or hold her while walking and bouncing her with her facing front and completely upright - feet dangling. This helps her fart and even poop. Also, infant massage really helps them - if you have a class offered somewhere near you - defin take it. There are different tummy massages that help and ways to push their legs and pull them back that help a great deal as well. Often as I'm doing the massage she'll pass gas like a trucker! If you don't have a class near you a friend of mine who lives way out in the burbs said she bought a video of infant massage. I hope that helps.

My daughter had "night colic" when she was a newborn. A swing helped sooth her better than anything else. I have no idea why, but it was like magic. :)

Thanks Sunshine and bumblebee.
I am definetly going to try a swing soon, a few people have mentioned it to me. Going to Babies R Us on Thursday to pick one up.

In the meantime, we are trying different burping positions, pumping her legs(works like a charm, she pooped on her dad once while he was pumping!! ), and belly massages.

I believe Mia's gassiness is related to me eating certain foods, like broccoli and certain beans. So I have been trying to eat plain and healthy foods, but I miss my veggies!
What veggies are not gas causing?

Thank ahead of time, :)

hi there!! we found that if we put a heavy-ish heated pad on her belly while she was sitting in a baby seat it seemed to help. the product we bought was called a bed buddy and is found in most drugstores. it was filled with rice or something and you just put it in the microwave. just be careful it does not get too hot!
good luck!
