I've been writing to a few food companies lately trying to find out if they use animal products/contain animal by-products in their merchandise. I've gotten a few responses.
One of the comapnies said that they don't use any animal products. Would they have reason to lie about this? Can it be trusted?
Am I sounding paranoid?
Just wondering what others view are on this.

I dunno much. But I would wonder if the people answering the question really understood it. Something may not have animal products in it, but it may have sugar, and that sugar may have been refined with bone char or god knows what. The devil's in the details sometimes.

i don't think they would lie. they wouldn't want to be held liable incase you're allergic or are opposed to it on religious grounds or something.

Vegans should not just plain trust people of company's.
"No sir, not one of our products contains animal products"
1v: um....but the suncream says beeswax
"Beeswax, yeah but that is not made of animals"
1v: *wacks head against wall*
1v: and product x contains casein
"our casein is from a vegetable source"
My experience is that you have to find out what part of the product or the process could be non-vegan and then ask a very specific question about that part.
