Okay, wasn't sure if this should go here or in the Products and Ingredients section - move if it's in the wrong spot? Thanks! ;)

Kelly (shedonteatmeat) sent me some TofuMate Mediterranean Herb mix in the last package she sent me, quite a while ago (and sadly my return to her has been sitting here for like 5 months! eek! we're horrible lol!)..

Anyway! I finally got up the gumption to try it. And I loved it!! The texture of the tofu was a little weird, but not overly tofu-like, which was great. The taste was delish. I will add a bit more salt or something next time as it was a tiny bit bland-ish (but not really? does that make sense? lol).. but I loved it. I will also add more veggies next time.

I forget what it was called, but before I went veg, my dad used to make a chicken dish. It was chicken with this certain sauce, like a pasta sauce. It was pretty much my favorite dish. Anyway, the smell of this Tofu Mate reminded me of that - the sauce's smell, not dead chicken smell. So I sort of thought it tasted a little like chicken, prolly due to the smell being similar.

If you haven't tried it though, please do! I totally recommend it. :)

chicken teriyaki, maybe? It sort of reminds me of that... Glad you liked it! :)

I'm lousy at tofu, I really am. It always ends up /odd/ somehow. But then again I haven't tried that often either. I just buy the grilled tofu stuff.

the first time i ever tried tofu, it was with a tofu mate spice packet. i hated it. i didn't drain the tofu and didn't let the water cook off, so i attempted to eat this horrible, watery tofu-y mess. i felt like i had to eat tofu, as i was a vegan and vegans are SUPPOSED to eat tofu, right?! hehe. so i gave up on tofu for quite a while. and then a vegan friend showed me the joys of tofu fried in sesame oil with shoyu. (a soy sauce). ..and now i can almost eat it plain and uncooked. haha. maybe one day i will try tofu mate again. until then, i am going to stick with my fantastic brand tofu scramble packets. *mmm*

thanks for recommending this.. i really ought to try it again. they have a bunch of different kinds, but i've always secretly feared them due to my experience almost four years ago. get over it already, beka!!!

I really love tofu, and tofu mate is the best. Whenever I cook tofu, I always drain excess water, cube it, and fry it up in a tablespoon or so of olive oil until it is ligh brown and crispy. It's pretty hard to burn tofu, so cook away until it's nice and crunchy. Then, add a little soy sauce and whatever spices you like (a "mix" spice is good here, like Thai, "Hot and Spicy," "Asian spice," Seasoned salt, etc.), cook until the soy sauce isn't liquid, and bammo! A lot cheaper this way than with tofu mate, but tofu mate is mighty tasty on special occasions.
