Has anyone here been to either the CA or the NY location?

I would love to go twice a year, once in the summer and then for Thanksgiving.

If you did go, did you stay in the bed and breakfast, and what are your thoughts on the experience?

Would you recommend staying there or staying elsewhere?

Does anyone have pictures of the lovely, happy animals?!!

I love Farm Sanctuary! My family and I stayed in the B&B cabins at the New York shelter last summer. It was awesome because we lucked out and were the only ones there! The very next day, the cabins were packed and people were swarming the area  We had the pleasure of a secluded private farm stay complete with private tour! Here are some choice photos of me and my sister on the farm.

Thank you so much for sharing! Those pictures are awesome.

It's good to know that Farm Sanctuary is a busy place. :D

I volunteered as an intern at the NY FS over Christmas break a couple of years ago. I hope to make it back there again this Christmas.

We went to the '97 Hoe-down. Camped on the lawn. Being the curmudgeon I am, there are d@mn few things that are "life-changing" for me. This visit was, for both of us. We arrived having been "visible vegans" for several years. That is, we wouldn't go out and buy obvious animal products, but weren't picky about, say, eggs in a muffin, et. al. We left there as vegans. It was meeting several hundred like-minded people, all on similar journeys, and of course meeting the animals themselves, that put us "over the top".

The Hoe-down used to be incredibly cheap. Fifty bucks for three days of workshops with leaders in the movement, awesome food and kinship with a few hundred fellow travelers. I think it's up in the $70-is range now, but it's a bargain at twice the price.

Camping wasn't exactly "rouging it". You pitch a tent on the big lawn behind the People Barn. You're steps from all the facilities (and from dozens of other camping animal people).

yay, beane! i interned at the NY farm sanctuary a couple years ago, too! it was in september, and it was so wonderful.

i love farm sanctuary, and i can't wait to go back. i've never stayed in the cabins, or even been in them, but i do know that they get a nice breakfast of vegan pastries..YUM! i have fond intern memories of being able to eat the leftover pastries..so flaky, so delicious...

i think my boyfriend and i are going to try to get up there and do the bed n breakfast cabin thing. or maybe we'll just camp..depends on how poor we are at the time..

ahhh farm sanc.<3

Just wanted to pop in briefly and say hello from the farm. I've been interning here during Christmas break. Two weeks down, one more to go. Once again, it has been a wonderful experience, and a great break from my routine. The people here are wonderful. It is great to be surrounded by passionate people devoted to making life better for animals. It's a refreshing change of pace. Of course, the animals are also totally awesome. I'm really going to miss them when I leave. :umm:

I went to Farm Sanctuary, the summer before last. I had a two month internship.

I went there was an out-of-shape 230 pound omnivore. Whilst there, I learned about animal rights issues (Whilst working my arse off shovelling straw out of barns).

The whole thing was a real eye-opening experience.

I didn't stay the whole internship, though :( The hard physical work, plus some emotional issues (I was starting to have nightmares about slaughtered pigs and stuff)...I burnt out and went home after a month.

...

Now that I'm more in-shape than I was, and all this knowledge about animal abuse isn't a sudden unexpected complete shock to my system, I sometimes think I'd like to go back someday and finish my internship. I don't know if they'll have me back, but if they'll take me, I'll gladly go again someday.

Great things about Farm Sanctuary:

- Simon the pygmy goat
- Living with other vegans
- The scenery. I was in the NY location and the whole place was absolutely beautiful.
- The store at Farm Sanctuary - you can buy anything from vegan ice cream to vegan cookbooks to the game veganopoloy

Things that weren't so great:
- Literally walking up hill both ways to and from work (Turns out that is in fact possible, if you live on one hill and work on the next)
- Being a 230 pound asthmatic doing more physical labour in a month than you've done all year
- Having to deal with the emotional issues that come from working with rescued animals

All in all, the good outweighed the bad. Going to Farm Sanctuary definately made me a better person.

Glad you're having a great time there, beane! Take lots of pictures to put up everywhere when you get back, as a constant reminder of all the happy times! :)

For the last couple of days, I've been running around taking pics of all the animals whenever it starts to get slow. Almost out of room on my camera though. :umm:

I guess if I run out of room on my camera, I may have to take a couple of the animals back home with me. There are 9 baby lambs here that FS is trying to place in good homes, and they are absolutely adorable. :smitten: I'm sure my roommates wouldn't mind if I bring a couple home with me...

I loved visiting FS back in 2000. I can only imagine how cool it is to stay there and work over a break or holiday. Looking forward to seeing your photos!

Oh my gosh, that's hilarious!

I have a few pictures, but I'll have to post them later. I'm not at my own computer.
