PETA (People for the Ethical treatment of Animals)

is inviting you to a KFC protest !

KFC chickens are crammed by the tens of thousands into sheds that stink of ammonia fumes from accumulated waste; they are given barely even room to move (each bird lives in the amount of space equivalent to a standard sheet of paper). They routinely suffer broken bones from being bred to be top heavy, from callous handling (workers roughly grab birds by their legs and stuff them into crates) and from being shackled upside down at slaughterhouses. Chickens are often still fully conscious as their throats are cut or when they are dumped into tanks of scalding hot water to remove their feathers. When they’re killed, chickens are still babies, not yet two months old, out of a natural life span of 10-15 years.

Please join us on Monday September 8th at the KFC at 1240 17th Ave. South West (at 12th St.) in Calgary, Alberta at 12:00 noon sharp. We will have a giant chicken crossing the road on crutches, posters, and leaflets so please just come !

Even as an omni I thought KFC was awful.

I'll be there.

Sadly I didn't.. I used to like it. Bleh. :( Then again there wasn't much I didn't like... Life is for change though! :)

My best friend can't make it as she's not living in the city. I am still trying to decide whether to go or not. I have a really hard time with anxiety about going to these things without someone I know. Maybe I can talk the boy into it...

aww I wish I could go...
I'm feeding homeless people with my work that day though from 10:30am til 1:30pm.

I find it hard too, because I'm kind of anti-social.

I've gone to two protests this summer. The people were really nice, though I didn't talk to them too much. I just sort of stood there holding my sign. :P

Anyway, thanks for telling me about this. I'm going to post this on the SOAR Yahoo! Group if someone hasn't already.

Maybe the 3 of us need to go together to one of these things sometime! :D

Well I'd love to meet you both before hand and then we could all feel more comfy going to protests that we'd be at. *g*

Perfect place: The Bad Ass on 17th Ave. Well, perfect for me cos that's where my friends hang out.. but they serve soy milk everything, pita and hummus, and I know most of the servers and they rock. *g*

If you're both free sometime soon, we should totally meet up and hang out. :)

Well I'm generally only free in the earlier part of the day (before 4) or really late since I work pretty much every night getting off anywhere from 10pm-3am.
If any day with that doesn't work for either of you, I could try to arrange a day off. I don't think I've ever been to the Bad Ass on 17th, but I sorta kinda know where it is.

I can be free most days at any time. Want to arrange something for next week? :)

Keep us posted when you're back from Vancouver and have a spare moment to hang out with a couple of vegan girls. :p
