Oh, and Dandelion is already wearing one of the band-aids I got him for Christmas, because while chopping veggies for the stock, he already cut himself on the other present that he's had for all of an hour, a professional sudoku-- er, I mean, santoku-- knife. AWww, poor Dandy... :p
I got a santoku knife for Christmas, too! :D Feel better and enjoy the wonderful food! And happy anniversary!

Inquiring minds want to know - is that santoku still sharp? If it is, how do you sharpen it?
I'll bet it's still fun to use.

still the same. (http://www.veganrepresent.com/forums/showpost.php?p=110633&postcount=3325) It is getting duller, I have to get a sharpener, no idea how yet. I love pulling it off the magnetic knife holder. It makes an awesome *shhhing* sound.

Yeah, it's a very sharp good knife that is still satisfying to use, it's just not so sharp it'll cut you for lookin' at it anymore. It's not great with tomatoes, like he said, but it's amazing the difference between it and our crappy old knife for cubing potatoes. MINIMAL effort required. :)

It is said that a dull knife is more dangerous in the kitchen than a sharp one.
I, too, have yet to learn the mysteries of knife-sharpening. In another era weren't there itinerant knife sharpeners? One of the local supermarkets will sharpen your knife for you for free. Of course that means handing over your virgin knife to a butcher.

Bump!
In my never-ending fascination with sharp objects, I'm checking in again on that santoku of yours, Dandy! I somehow lost one of my chef's knives at the FS Celebration for the Turkeys and am now thinking about replacing it.

oh yeah that blade is all bent up to hell. still sharper than any other knife i have and a joy to use. i gotta get that sharpened!
i have a santoku! i loooooooove it!! it's all steel, not the ceramic kind but super lightweight. sharpest thing in my kitchen and it works so well! though i find that it gets rust spots if i don't dry it toute suite! after washing it.

As I understand it, a "santoku" is a style of knife, those of you with them, who is the maker?

in other news, i CONSTANTLY mispronounce and call it a "santuko." i'm not sure how that started but it's completely ingrained. thank god i never have to talk about it in public.
