So, it is time. I have finally decided to come out and stop lurking among the Vegan Represent threads and at last become a member. Or something like that.
I'm Leslie. I'm a sophomore in high school, I'm nearly at a month now of being a vegan, and I can't imagine going back. I was contemplating vegetarianism for a long time, then recently my parents gave in and allowed me to be a vegetarian (though I must hide my veganism). After about a month of that I was starting to feel like a bit of a hypocrite--eating dairy (which causes the death of cows) while not eating meat. I did some research, bought a nutrition textbook, and embarked upon the journey of veganism. At first, I felt absolutely deprived, but then I realized, "I can cook", and since then it's been wonderful. I feel a lot better now, don't get nasty stomachaches or strange rashes. I feel like I'm doing something useful for the environment; in a small way I am compensating for the collective destruction that surrounds me. Besides that, I just really like vegetables, fruit, soy, and whole grains...
Why am I here? I have no vegans in my life, very few vegetarians, and I need some advice from time to time about how to manage.
Thanks!
